This is just a survey to see who impressed you the most in Evanston High Athletics....When contemplating think of their high school athletic achievements and what they have accomplished after high school for instance their college career(if applicable) or their further education

Wow, that's tough! There have been so many gifted multi-sport athletes that have competed for the Red Devils. I think that's where you have to begin though, with the key word being "multi-sport." Then, I believe you have to look at the the athletes who have taken their athletic prowess to the next level, in particular to Division One; that narrows it down substantially. With that in mind, I'll offer up some names:
Gary McLean from the the class of '61 - two-sport star, (Hoops & Football) for the Wyoming Cowboys.
My brother, Tony Madia (EHS '83) - just one of those guys that seemed to master every sport he tried - football, basketball, baseball - wasn't a bad track competitor or golfer either - played QB @ Washington St. - reminds me of the best athlete I played with who never competed at the college level, but could have - Hazen Atkinson.
Jason Schofield - Stud Football Player - Stud Wrestler.
Bryce Scanlon ('03) - same as above, only better - led the the entire 4A in defensive points in both his junior & senior years - unprecedented, (unless younger brother Wes Scanlon can get it done) - will compete for a starting defensive line position with the Utah Utes in '05.
Poppinga - does it really matter if you say Casey, Brady or Kelly? All were great athletes in 3 or more sports @ EHS and all 3 are playing or have played D1 Football. Casey has seen some time in the pros, and Brady will be a draft pick this year. Kelly transferred from Utah State to BYU, where he'll finish out his collegiate career.
Speaking of professional sports, 2 words - Jaycee Carroll. After what should be a spectacular career @ Utah State, I truly believe Carroll will play in that 82 games per season league...Best High School Basketball Player to emerge from Wyoming... ever. Period. Track star and golfer, and a good football player through his sophomore year before focusing solely on hoops. Simply dazzling & amazing....
Here's one that may surprise most people, but I would add Brendon Ehlers, ('04) Had he not been so talented in golf, he would have been a great football player. Attending Utah St. on full-ride golf scholarship. 4A State Individual Medalist in Golf in his senior year, while also garnering 4A Player-of-the-Year honors in Basketball, and led his Red Devils to a state title, the first since 1982.
Some others worthy of consideration: Rick Guild ('75) - football, basketball, track
Trent O'Brien ('91?) - Basketball & Baseball
Mike Paul - Football, for sure - played @ UW, but injuries shortened his career - did he compete in wrestling or track?
How 'bout the Fackrell Brothers?
Clay Caswell - football, basketball track (triple-jumper extraordinaire)
Well there's a good start, in my humble opinion. What are your thoughts?

I see that this is an old topic, but I just came across it. I think that Jason Pruitt's name should be included on this list for the way that he led the 97 state championship football team as a Junior and the things that he did as a Senior as well. He was a lot of fun to block for as an OLineman. Then what he did on basketball court and on the track, he's not the best, but he deserves to be on this list for sure.
Another name that I think should be on here is Wes Davis. I know he had, and still may have, the Big West record for the 110 hurdles. I myself have never seen someone run over the hurdles like he did/could.
But, honestly my vote goes to the Poppinga's.

All those guys are great athletes. But my choice would have to be Mason Kinion (06). He also masters every sport he does. He is an amazing wrestler, probably goin to be competing for the state title this year. I would say hes one of the best wrestlers we have had at EHS.

This is definitely a hard topic. I agree with most of the names on this list but I would like to add one more: Jamis Short. Jamis was a 4 sport star his senior year. The most heart and hustle and hard work demonstrated that I have ever seen in a red devil athlete in every facet of every sport that he played. And I have seen most of the names on this list. If there was high school hockey and water polo he would have been great at those too. Will he play at the collegiate level? Only time will tell since he just graduated but many of the ones on the list didn't play at the next level either. So the best multi-sport? I would say Jamis is at least in the top 5.

I agree with Jamis Short being on the list. If his talent at tailback would have been recognized earlier in his football career, like his soph-jr year, who knows what would have been? To play tailback for the first time in his life his SENIOR year and be second in the state in TD's and yardage and having to learn a new coache's offensive system in just one summer prior to that year is PHENOMENAL. Credit his on-field savvy, vision and willingness to do something completely new for the team to succeed. If not for his team's lack of success in the win column, you would have been looking at a 1st team all-stater right up there with the rest of the big boys and a college scholarship to boot. Oh and don't forget that he is all-state in track with his incredible finish in the 300 meter hurdles and that he led his basketball team to a consolation championship finish after a tough first-round loss to Gillette.

wow this is a tough decision but when it all boils down to work ethic and leadership the name alex thomas will always come to my mind. a junior who had more leadership than any of person out there on the football field. he has the heart of a lion. the will power of three bears. not only on the football field but the basketball court as well. go get em thomas your future is just beginning.THOMAS THOMAS THOMAS

all american.... what comes to mind when i hear this... shane privett. if you dont belive me, check the film on this boy during the 06 bball season. he racked up the stats like a pro!!! when i think of priv, i think not only of the greatest ball player in ehs, but possibly the greatest fade-away jumper next michael jordan himself. all i know is this is the man i would take to battle with me, not just because of his heart, but his sheer size, strength and will to kill!!! TAKE IT TO UM PRIVETT!!!

Mel Orchard... This guy may not have played in the pros. He may not have broken any or set records so high, but he was a man amoungst boys. Character, integrity and humble. I'm looking for a role model. Trent O'brien is no role model.

This isn't who is the best role model. Trent was an amazing athlete. That is what the thread is titled. Iverson is no role model, are you telling me he is not a great athlete? Also Mike Dean should be mentioned.

Looking at the EHS yearbooks from 1940-present...a few guys stand out as all around athletes--being all state or state placers in 3 sports.
They were among the best fall, winter, and spring...three seasons.
Brent Sanders: track, football, wrestling Rocky Seale: football, basketball, track Mel Orchard: football, basketball, track.
More importantly, they are still winning today: 2 engineers and a lawyer.

100115SLZLM This is the best black CHI Flat Iron ever! I have very coarse hair , but had become very sparse due to all of the breakage caused by other flat iron . Ever since i have been using the Dark Hair Straightener GHD IV i have had virtualy no breakage and my hair looks very healthy and shiny. This thing is really great. I’m an Asian boy and I use them to style my hair most of the time. I had 2 straighteners before, by far the GHD IV Hot Pink Styler is the best 1 for me. i have such damaged hair but after i straighten with this thing. Wow. incredible result! Love it alot. I look just like a superstar right now! Thanks to Hair Straightener Kiss GHD MK4I have been using the Pure Hair Straightener GHD IV Professional Ceramic Hair Straighteners for over a year.I have used many brands but I found that the GHD IV Purple Styling Set is by far the best for my hair
