Some of Bill & Mark's Favorites and Top Tens....

Ritta for Bill & Mark's Excellent Rock 'N Roll Adventure

Mark & Bill Birthday & Anniversary Club

A request-driven classic rock show, pure and simple. That's what Bill Smith and I envisioned, and that's what it's been since January 15th of 2000. We'd start out with our personal favorites in the ever-changing genre of what is considered classic rock or at least what constituted classic rock in our minds. We hoped it would attract an audience and that our listeners would chime in with what they'd like to hear. A simple concept and it works.

The show airs each and every Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm and is sponsored by Porter's FireworksWe thank John & Jerry and everyone @ Porter's Fireworks!

The name is a silly reference to "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" - one of those quick decisions where you say, "ah hell, we'll change it later...."

Bill and I had hosted a Friday "Class Reunion" show on KEVA when the format was adult contemporary, (Magic 99's current format, for the most part). The music was not exactly classic rock, but we knew where we wanted to go with a show, should an opportunity ever present itself. We also knew that an mono AM station, such as KEVA, was not the desired sound for the music we loved; it simply didn't do the jams justice.

When KEVA, (which now broadcasts a country format in AM Stereo along with specialty programming such as sports - Evanston Red Devil, Wyoming Cowboy and professional; public affairs - Evanston Area Happenings, Candidate Forums and the like; and the KEVA Classifieds) and Magic 99 swapped formats, we had our classic rock-friendly FM Stereo signal @ 99.1 and began taking requests.

Occasionally we will go a little later, such as a special on-location edition @ Porter's Firework's this past 4th of July - noon 'til 5 pm - or John or Jerry Porter will bribe us with food to go 'til 2 on any given Saturday. That's because they love the staples of classic rock as much as we do. The Who, Led Zepplin, Boston, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Van Halen, AC/DC, Foreigner, Aerosmith, Joe Walsh, ZZ Topp, (why, I could go on ad infinitum) and many more seem to find their way into the playlist on a weekly basis. We like to pull out some obscure, yet highly memorable cuts as well - "Hocus Pocus" by Focus is a great example - just to shake things up. It's always cool to have a caller say something like, "Man, I haven't heard that song forever! Do you guys remember ______  ________?" "Yeah we do and, as a matter of fact, it's next!" "Right on, dudes!"

There are many ways for you to request and hear your favorite and sometimes forgotten favorites in classic rock. Call 789-8255 or 1-800-233-9101 toll free, if you're outside the locally calling area. Fire us an email or even send us a fax @ 789-8521. Bill and Mark's Excellent Rock 'N' Roll Adventure on Magic 99 - every Saturday from 11 am to 1pm.
